The kukri knife first appears in Book 1 as a nineteenth-century Nepalese combat weapon, its broad, wavy blade and wooden or horn hilt marking it as a tool for cutting, throwing, and close-quarters fighting. Across the series it evolves from a static antique curiosity in the Salamander Antiquarian into a living conduit of green-mountain magic, its steel edge becoming a vessel for ritual, memory, and the latent power of Mons Viridis. By later volumes the blade’s physical form remains unchanged, yet its symbolic weight grows: it becomes the instrument that severs curses, seals pacts with forest spirits, and ultimately decides the fate of the Viridian conclave.
