Oskar Runecki debuts in the first volume of Mons Viridis Magicus as a towering, coldly antagonistic arch-mage whose lethal skill with an enormous bow marks him as one of the city’s most feared practitioners. His arc is brutally truncated when he is hurled into a wolf-pit arena and impaled on sharpened stakes, losing his left eye in a gory void of black blood. Though his physical presence ends there, the memory of his fall reverberates through later volumes as a cautionary emblem of how even the mightiest mages can be reduced to broken husks by the city’s hidden cruelties.
