The Pits of Hathsin are the infamous crevasse-riddled atium mines of the Final Empire, where condemned prisoners were worked to death harvesting geodes for the Lord Ruler's most precious metal. Kelsier survived imprisonment there and emerged a Mistborn, and Vin's crew later destroyed the Pits' crystals and crippled the empire's atium supply. In the aftermath of the Collapse, the Pits linger as a scar of the old regime and the hidden source of Ruin's power. Centuries later, in the era of Wax and Wayne, they have passed into legend as the storied birthplace of atium.
