The Homeland is the hidden refuge of the kandra, a network of caverns beneath the Terris region where the race of shapeshifting servants of the Lord Ruler keep their secrets, their First Contract, and the Trust. In The Hero of Ages it becomes the stage for a crisis of faith, as TenSoon is put on trial there for breaking the Contract, and the kandra wrestle with their ancient charge to aid the Hero of Ages. By Shadows of Self, centuries later, it remains the seat of kandra society under the guidance of Harmony, and the place to which the kandra answer when one of their own, Bleeder, goes rogue.
