Kath is the steady, ever-prepared governess of the Ladrian household in The Lost Metal, entrusted with the care of Waxillium and Steris's young children, Tindwyl and Max. Rarely in the spotlight, she is a quiet constant amid the family's chaotic lives, armed with an enormous bag of spare clothing, washcloths, and a practical harness for the baby. As the threat to Elendel escalates, her role takes on greater weight when she escorts the children away to the safety of the countryside estate.
Description
Kath is a middle-aged woman with brown hair typically pulled back in a practical bun. She wears a modest governess's dress in dark, durable fabric. Her hands are often occupied with baby supplies—a bag of clothing and washcloths—and she carries herself with the calm attentiveness of someone accustomed to childcare. Kath is identified as a governess, but the text does not specify her age, height, build, skin tone, hair, eyes, or facial features. Her most distinctive visual element is an enormous caregiving bag, burdened with extra clothing and washcloths. She has the practical, attentive presence of someone ready to manage a child’s needs.
