Edwarn Ladrian, Waxillium's uncle and a stocky, impeccably groomed financier, is the ruthless pragmatist whose lessons in banking and value helped drive a young Wax away from Elendel to become a lawman in the Roughs. In Shadows of Self he is revealed as a leading figure of the Set, the secretive faction that profits from the chaos of the kandra Paalm's rampage while refusing to help his nephew. By The Lost Metal he remains Wax's chief adversary, and the conflict between the law-bound hero and the uncle who builds power through debt and manipulation becomes one of the defining family rivalries of the Wax and Wayne era.
