Kalam Mekhar's long knives are the signature tools of the Bridgeburner assassin and former Claw, a matched pair of keen-edged blades that define his close, lethal fighting style. In Gardens of the Moon they serve him through the shadowed rooftops and assassin-haunted streets of Darujhistan. In Deadhouse Gates, as Kalam crosses the Seven Cities wastes on his mission against the Empress, the pair is broken when one blade snaps in a desperate fight with desert wolves, leaving a fragment lodged in one of the beasts. The broken blade marks how much the brutal journey costs him.
