The T'lan Imass are an undead army of ancient warriors bound by the Ritual of Tellann, sworn to an eternal war against the Jaghut and allied with the Malazan Empire. In Gardens of the Moon they appear as the unsettling presence of Onos T'oolan, a squat, leather-skinned warrior whose Tellann aura nullifies sorcery, and whose kind become a lethal instrument of imperial will. Deadhouse Gates widens the view, revealing a people with fractures in their ranks. Some clans have renegaded, and a dismembered T'lan Imass is found in the Holy Desert of Raraku, signs of a dying, divided race still bound to vows far older than any living empire.
