Perro Policía enters the narrative as a standard police scent-detection dog in Volume 2, but its role expands dramatically as the series progresses. Initially a mundane working animal, it becomes entangled with the supernatural world when its handler's investigations intersect with Beyonder activities. Over subsequent volumes, the dog evolves from a mere tool of law enforcement into a recurring witness to mystical crimes, its enhanced senses inadvertently allowing it to perceive phenomena invisible to ordinary humans. By the later books, Perro Policía serves as an unwitting bridge between the mundane and the extraordinary, its presence often signaling the intersection of police procedure with the hidden world of potions and deities.
