Municipio Este de Backlund begins as a smog-choked industrial slum where poverty and crime fester beneath the city’s gilded façade. Across the series it transforms from a mere backdrop of misery into a crucible of social upheaval and mystical conflict, its tenements and factories becoming battlegrounds for secret organizations and the awakening of the lower classes. By the later volumes the East Borough’s fog no longer merely obscures vision; it conceals the birth of new powers and the first stirrings of revolution.
