Hillston Municipality, a borough of Backlund, first appears in Volume 2 as the older urban fabric housing detective offices and the gritty backdrop for Klein Moretti’s investigations. Across the series it evolves from a mere setting into a nexus of political intrigue and mystical activity, reflecting the city’s shifting power dynamics as the war escalates and the Tarot Club’s influence grows. By later volumes, its narrow streets and aging infrastructure become symbolic of the old order’s decay, while also serving as a covert meeting ground for Beyonders and revolutionaries.
