Meursault emerges in Volume 2 as a physically imposing yet enigmatic figure whose arc traces the grim trajectory from living operative to posthumous vessel of Beyonder power. Introduced as a dark-skinned, thin man whose Highland accent and violent bearing set him apart, he transitions from active participant in shadowy dealings to a silent corpse whose open eyes and expanding throat wound mark the condensation of his Beyonder characteristics. Across the volume, his presence shifts from that of a living ambassador in evening dress to an inert body whose very remains become objects of supernatural interest, embodying the series’ recurring theme of transformation through death.
Description
Thin, smooth-faced middle-aged man with dark skin and sunken eye sockets. Wears black coat and pompous silk hat, or evening dress depending on context. Holds crimson liquid bottle in one scene, sharp dagger in death grip in another. Wide-open eyes show murderous gaze, lower body showing signs of post-death incontinence with foul odor. Strong Highland accent when speaking Loen.
