- Religion
A hierarchical Christian church with a Catholic (primate) residing in the capital, metropolitans, bishops, and clergy representing the pomp and order of a regular hierarchy. Founded by Syrian missionaries with Syriac language, discipline, and doctrine. The church maintained theological schools like Edessa where students studied Theodore of Mopsuestia's works. The church extended from China to Jerusalem with twenty-five metropolitans composing the hierarchy, under the patriarch of Babylon. The church rejected the Council of Ephesus and maintained a moral rather than physical union of Christ's two natures.
