Zeno rose from his origins as an Isaurian chieftain named Trascalisseus to become Eastern Roman Emperor, navigating the treacherous politics of Constantinople through strategic marriages and calculated alliances. He issued the Henoticon in an attempt to reconcile religious factions within the empire, and enacted administrative reforms requiring governors to remain in their provinces after their terms. His reign from 474 to 491 was marked by efforts to stabilize imperial authority amid constant challenges from both within and without the empire.
Description
Zeno possesses the olive-toned skin and dark features typical of his Isaurian heritage, with a full beard and hair kept in the imperial style. He wears the purple robes of Eastern Roman emperorship, adorned with gold embroidery and imperial insignia. His build is that of a mature man accustomed to both military command and court ceremony, carrying himself with the deliberate dignity of one who has earned his throne through struggle rather than inheritance.
