Plutarch of Chaeronea established himself as both philosopher and biographer, whose works inculcated a decent reverence for religion while chronicling the lives of illustrious Greeks and Romans. His observations on historical events, from Mithridates' massacre to the customs of ancient Rome, became authoritative sources for later historians. His writings on divorce laws and religious practices provided invaluable insights into classical antiquity.
