Nicephorus I began as the great treasurer of the Byzantine Empire before seizing the throne through political conspiracy, being crowned at St. Sophia. His reign was marked by both his avaricious nature and his allowance of general liberty of speech, which earned him accusations from monks. He suffered three wounds in battle against the forces of Harun al-Rashid, and his reign ended violently when his head was displayed on a spear and his skull used as a victory cup.

Description

A middle-aged Byzantine emperor with features marked by both administrative experience and the weight of imperial authority. He wears elaborate imperial regalia including richly decorated robes and the crown of empire, his presence reflecting his background as a former treasurer who rose to claim the throne through political maneuvering.
