The Threadbare cloak begins as Vis’s sole defense against the cold, a visible emblem of his poverty and the daily grind of his early life. Across the series it is repeatedly mended, lost, and reclaimed, each time carrying new scars that mirror his ascent through the Hierarchy’s ranks. By the later books the cloak has become less a garment than a talisman—its frayed edges and hidden stitches chronicling every betrayal, alliance, and hard-won secret Vis has survived.
