Floating Torch begins as a simple Will-manipulated light source in the ruins of The Will of the Many, but its role expands dramatically as the Hierarchy series progresses. What starts as a utilitarian tool controlled by Veridius becomes a symbol of power, a weapon, and eventually a conduit for ancient forces. Across the books, Floating Torch evolves from a passive illumination device into an active participant in the unfolding conflict between the Hierarchy and the ancient powers it seeks to control.
