Western River begins as a simple cartographic feature on the Iudicium map in The Will of the Many, but its significance expands dramatically as the Hierarchy series progresses. The river transforms from a mere geographical divider into a strategic military corridor, a site of ancient ruins, and ultimately a contested borderland whose control determines the fate of entire provinces. Its waters carry both the promise of trade and the threat of invasion, making it one of the most pivotal locations in the series' geopolitical landscape.
