The Firebolt is the fastest and most advanced racing broom of its day, first glimpsed by Harry Potter in a Diagon Alley shop window before arriving anonymously as a Christmas gift after his Nimbus 2000 is destroyed by the Whomping Willow. Suspected of being jinxed by Sirius Black, it is confiscated and stripped down by Professors McGonagall and Flitwick, only to be returned clean and later revealed as a gift from Sirius himself, Harry's godfather. In the following year the broom becomes a crucial tool in the Triwizard Tournament, when Harry summons it with a Summoning Charm to outfly the Hungarian Horntail in the First Task.
