The Potions Dungeon is the cold, dimly lit underground classroom beneath Hogwarts where Severus Snape rules over bubbling cauldrons, shelves of pickled creatures, and scarred wooden tables. From Harry's very first lesson, when Snape singles him out with humiliating questions, the dungeon becomes a place of tension between Gryffindors and Slytherins, as well as the backdrop for crucial brews like Polyjuice Potion schemes, Shrinking Solutions, and the Draught of Peace. Across the early books its description shifts little, but its atmosphere deepens: it is Snape's personal territory, a place where Harry's rivalry with Draco Malfoy and Snape's bias are laid bare, and where Hermione's ingredient raids from Snape's private stores quietly advance the plot.
