The Gryffindor Common Room, a cozy circular tower room hidden behind the portrait of the Fat Lady, serves as the warm heart of Harry Potter's life at Hogwarts. In his first year it is a refuge where friendships are forged and secret plans are hatched, culminating in Neville Longbottom's brave stand against his friends. Its sense of safety is shattered in the third year when Sirius Black slashes the Fat Lady's portrait and later breaches the dormitories, and by the fourth year it becomes the stage for both celebration and estrangement as Harry is named a Triwizard champion and briefly falls out with Ron.
