The Gryffindor Boys' Dormitory is a circular tower room reached by a spiral staircase from the Gryffindor Common Room, furnished with four-poster beds hung with deep red velvet curtains and a trunk at the foot of each. For Harry, Ron, Neville, Seamus and Dean it begins as a cozy refuge in their first year. It soon becomes a site of danger and intrigue: it is ransacked when Tom Riddle's diary is stolen in Harry's second year, and in his third year Sirius Black breaks in and slashes Ron's bed-curtains with a knife. By the fourth year it is the backdrop to the bitter rift between Harry and Ron over the Triwizard Tournament, as well as Harry's troubling dreams of Voldemort.
