Vernon Dursley, the beefy, mustached director of Grunnings drill company and Harry Potter's uncle by marriage, serves throughout the series as the purple-faced embodiment of Muggle denial and respectability at all costs. From his frantic attempts to intercept Harry's Hogwarts letters in the first book to his imprisonment of Harry behind barred windows and his humiliation during Aunt Marge's disastrous visit, his rage repeatedly collides with a magical world he cannot control. By the fourth book his bluster is increasingly undercut by fear, of wizards, of the Weasleys' chaotic arrival through his fireplace, and of Harry's convicted-murderer godfather Sirius Black, revealing how fragile his insistence on being perfectly normal truly is.
Description
A big beefy middle-aged British man with almost no neck, a very large bushy mustache, light skin, and a round face that flushes purple or beet red when angry before draining to ashen pale when frightened. He has short dark hair combed neatly, a substantial frame squeezed into conventional business wear including a dull boring tie and polished shiny black shoes, appearing as an ordinary but perpetually irritated suburban family man. A large, neckless man with a massive black bushy mustache dominating his florid face, small sharp eyes glinting with intensity. Purple skin stretches taut over throbbing temple veins, bulldog jowls bared in snarls. He wears casual clothes or a bow tie with dinner jacket, his hulking frame filling doorways with bellowing presence. Large, beefy middle-aged man with scarcely any neck, his head seeming to sit directly on massive shoulders. A bushy mustache overwhelms his small, often slitted eyes, while large fists turn purple in anger. Face flushes ugly puce, trousers occasionally ragged, exuding a roaring, spit-spraying presence. Vernon is a large, heavyset man with a thick neck and a broad face that flushes red to purple. Tiny eyes peer out beneath his heavy features, while a bushy mustache dominates his upper lip. He is usually presented in a neat best suit, an attempt at respectability that contrasts with his perspiring, tightly wound presence. His size and bristling mustache make him unmistakable.
