Stan Shunpike, the pimply, jug-eared young conductor of the Knight Bus, bursts into the series when he answers Harry Potter's accidental summons on Magnolia Crescent after Harry flees the Dursleys. Chatty and gossip-hungry, he regales the incognito Harry, who calls himself 'Neville Longbottom', with breathless talk of the escaped Sirius Black before the bus lurches its way to the Leaky Cauldron. By Goblet of Fire he has become a minor background figure, appearing briefly among the crowds at the Quidditch World Cup and bragging to impress the veela. He remains a comic snapshot of the wizarding world's eccentric everyday workers.
