Errol is the Weasley family's ancient, worn-out owl, a loyal but famously feeble courier whose every delivery seems to come at great personal cost. In Prisoner of Azkaban he crashes unconscious into the Dursleys' window carrying Ron's birthday package to Harry and must recover alongside Hedwig. By Goblet of Fire his frailty has become a running joke, as a single fruitcake delivery leaves him needing five days to recuperate. Across both appearances Errol embodies the shabby, affectionate chaos of the Weasley household.
Description
Large old gray owl with ruffled feathers and a bleary eye. Often seen unconscious or with head tucked under wing in recovery, a large package sometimes bound to his legs. His form conveys tireless exhaustion from endless flights. Errol is an elderly owl with a fragile, worn-out bearing, seeming more suited to resting than to flight. His feathers are described as nothing more specific than those of an ordinary owl, and the book gives no particular color, markings, or eye details. He appears feeble and tired, with a gentle, slightly rumpled presence that suggests a bird long past his most vigorous days.
