Virago, once Madja, enters as a small, dark, sleek, muscular guardswoman beautiful and cat-like, turned antagonist by poisoning that afflicts her with disfiguring boils and sores on her tongue and mouth. In her single chapter, she confronts Fitz with vengeful fury amid the court's poisonings, her agony fueling a brief but intense threat. Her swift arc from skilled fighter to poisoned victim underscores the deadly undercurrents of Buckkeep's power struggles.
