Spunky Jefferson, grandly titled the Enchanted Nickel Sock of the Elderly Miser, is a sapient weapon: a battered sock weighted with rattling coins. Introduced in The Eye of the Bedlam Bride, he is taken up by Dong Quixote, and the two set off together as wielder and talking weapon. By This Inevitable Ruin, Jefferson has grown from a curious enchanted item into a sharp-tongued advisor, whispering tactical counsel into Dong's mind from the nickel end of his crust sock flail form.

Description

Jefferson is a white tube sock with red and blue stripes at the top, old and heavily sagging. Its crusty fabric is splattered with blood, while several dollars’ worth of nickels bulge inside and jingle with movement. The text gives no face or other body-like features, leaving him an oddly animate, ragged bundle. Spunky Jefferson is a crust sock repurposed as a flail, with a nickel attached at one end. His worn, rough texture and dangling form give him the unmistakable look of an improvised weapon. The nickel is his defining detail, often positioned close to his wielder’s ear. He has no human face or body; his presence comes through the battered sock and the coin at its tip.
