Bea is Carl's ex-girlfriend and Princess Donut's former owner, a figure who exists in the series only through memory and reference, never appearing in the dungeon herself. In The Eye of the Bedlam Bride, she surfaces as a sore spot in Carl's past: he refuses to discuss her in an interview, while Donut keeps a photograph of Bea, taken with Brad and tied to a Bahamas trip, as a keepsake of her pre-dungeon life. Small details fill in her background, including her family in Yakima and her habit of playing Gregorian chant albums during yoga. By This Inevitable Ruin she has faded to a passing anecdote about a cousin who mocked a gorilla at the zoo, a sign of how far the crawl has carried Carl and Donut from their old lives.
