Wei Shi Jaran is the scarred, limping father of Lindon and Kelsa, a proud Wei Shi family head in Sacred Valley whose stern devotion to clan honor leads him to tell his Unsouled son that a clean death is preferable to shame. In Suriel's vision of the Valley's destruction, he slips out into the night and dies, leaving Seisha to light a candle at his memorial. That future is averted, but by Uncrowned Jaran has suffered a different loss: blinded by the Heaven's Glory School, he lives in exile with his eyes bandaged, navigating by touch and memory. His arc traces a hard, honor-bound clan leader worn down into a quietly resilient survivor of the sacred arts world his son has outgrown.
Description
A human man with a scarred face and a scar at the corner of his lip that leaves his mouth in an eternal smirk. He has a lasting limp and walks with a cane. He wears robes in the family scenes; later he is seen with an overcoat and sword, and is also described in white funeral robes. A middle-aged man whose bandaged ruined eyes mark him as blind, though he navigates his world with remarkable precision. His fingers move deftly over game pieces as he plays by touch, and a cane leans within easy reach against a nearby tree. He wears simple exile camp clothing, with his belongings organized in boxes around his stool beneath the oiled canvas roof.

Wei Shi Lindonfather
Jaran is Lindon's father. In Book 1 he is a stern parent who puts clan honor first, telling his Unsouled son that a clean death is better than shame. In Suriel's vision he keeps his attention on the battle rather than on his dying son. By Book 7 Lindon has become a powerful sacred artist, while Jaran is a blind exile, which turns their old dynamic upside down.

Wei Shi Kelsafather
Jaran is Kelsa's father. He pins the family's hopes on her, urging her to use the spirit-fruit to advance before the Seven-Year Festival.

Wei Shi Seishahusband
Jaran is Seisha's husband. Suriel's vision shows him slipping out while she sleeps and Seisha later lighting a candle at his memorial, a foreshadowing of loss in the timeline Lindon's actions avert.

Wei Mon Kethrival
Keth is the rival head of another Wei family. He exploits Jaran's injuries, and Jaran answers with open mockery after Lindon's duel.
