Akura Malice, the Monarch of the Akura clan and Queen of Shadows, looms over the Cradle series as one of the most powerful beings in the world. In Underlord she is a commanding, menacing matriarch whose favor or disfavor can reshape the destinies of the sacred artists beneath her, acting largely through intermediaries like Charity. By Uncrowned her presence has grown almost mythic: a shadowy figure watching over her mountain domain from above, rarely seen directly yet shaping events across the world from the depths of her shrouded existence.

Description

She has a full figure and queenly poise, with pale skin and black-painted lips. Her hair flows to the small of her back, darker than night and billowing like liquid smoke. Her eyes blaze with pure endless purple light. She wears a rich black dress of silken fabric hung with delicate silver chains bearing fat amethysts, and a silver chain around her forehead holding the largest amethyst over her eyes. Malice appears as a figure completely shrouded in shadow, her form obscured by darkness that seems to move with purpose around her. She stands in midair over her mountain, her presence suggested more by the absence of light than by any visible features. The shadows that envelop her create an aura of immense, barely contained power.

Connections

  • Akura Charityconflicting source relationships

Charity acts as Malice's representative and primary administrator of the clan, serving as the Sage of the Silver Heart. Sources conflict on their exact kinship: Underlord describes her as Malice's grand-niece, while Uncrowned calls her Malice's daughter. Either way, Charity is consistently Malice's trusted agent in clan affairs.

  • Akura Mercyconflicting source relationships

Mercy is Malice's daughter. In Underlord their relationship centers on Malice's maternal authority and expectations; in Uncrowned Mercy is framed as Malice's favored child and heir to the Akura clan.

  • AF

    Akura Furyconflicting source relationships

Fury is Malice's son and himself a Monarch. Across both books Malice remains the ultimate authority in the family, even over her powerful son.
