Volodya Pochkin is a burly young beginner in magic and an amateur poet, more often encountered amid the ordinary bustle of the Institute than in any grand role. Mistaken for his double, he is left in shock, while the double regards Privalov with open fascination; Pochkin later returns to collect a completed calculation and trade rumors about Vybegallo. His brief appearances make him a sturdy, human counterpoint to the Institute’s strangeness.
Description
Pochkin is a large, strongly built young man, with a robust frame that makes him seem comfortable in a doorway or by a table. The text does not specify his facial features, coloring, hair, or eyes, so these remain undefined. His ordinary, unshowy manner is associated with tea and sandwiches rather than distinctive dress, and his presence feels sturdy and good-natured.
