Marusya appears as a minor but steady presence in the household, first introduced as a small woman much older than Katya with a kind, wide face. She is later seen as a square-built, good-natured girl carrying water with a yoke, embodying the practical, working women who populate the background of daily life.
Description
Marusya is a small woman with a wide, flat face and square build. Her features are good-natured and plain, suggesting someone accustomed to physical work. She wears simple, practical clothing, often seen with an apron, and carries herself with the unassuming competence of someone who performs necessary tasks without drawing attention.
