The governess appears only in a brief, imagined question about what would happen if a person had no name. In that playful possibility, she calls for a pupil and then resorts to the generic “Miss!”—the sort of address servants use. The book gives her no further history or transformation.
Description
The text offers no physical description of the governess. She is identified only by her occupation and by the voice with which she calls students to lessons; her face, build, coloring, hair, eyes, and clothing are not specified.
