Shape-shifting magic first appears as a flash of white light that transforms High Fae between beastly and Fae forms, most notably in Tamlin, whose Spring Court is bound by Amarantha's curse, and it is also used to disguise others as animals. In A Court of Mist and Fury, the magic takes on a darker, more personal character as Feyre, newly Made High Fae and gifted with powers from all seven High Lords, learns to summon membranous Illyrian-style wings and sharp talons. The progression mirrors Feyre's own arc, from a mortal surrounded by fearsome transformations to a wielder who reshapes her own body as a weapon and a means of freedom.
