The Summer Court Territory first enters the series as a place of grief, remembered by Alis as her original homeland, where her sister and mate were killed, a loss that drove her into service at the Spring Court. In A Court of Mist and Fury, the territory comes into full view as Tarquin's sunlit seaside realm, centered on the island city of Adriata. Feyre, Rhysand and their companions visit it in search of the Book of Breathings. Feyre's theft there damages a promising alliance with the young High Lord, so the court shifts from a backdrop of personal tragedy to a politically charged neighbor.
